Depth before breadth

A bounded excerpt from 2.1 The Target Audience.

The product gains more features, the message gains more explanations, and the company can end up offering a little to everyone while meaning too little to any one person.

A larger target audience should therefore be a development strategy in which the company knows what understanding it can carry forward and which new problem it has not yet earned the right to call its own.

Depth has to come before breadth. Otherwise, growth becomes a larger version of the guesswork.
